Responsibilities:
- Support autonomous vehicle testing by operating and riding in Class 8 (semi-trucks) or equivalent vehicles to actively monitor system performance, execute live testing, and accumulate mileage.
- Provide hands-on vehicle readiness for complex demonstrations and fleet maintenance activities, ensuring all systems and sensors are operational.
- Work onsite during system installation and field deployment Act as the main point of contact for third-party installers and customers/end-users.
- Willingness and ability to travel more than 60%, including weekends, as required to support field operations.
- Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve novel or complex technical issues impacting autonomous vehicle systems, including hardware, software, and electrical subsystems.
- Analyze data from engineering drawings, databases, and field actions to consolidate and escalate reliability issues to the engineering team in a concise and actionable manner.
- Collaborate with engineering to develop and document real-time mitigation actions, long-term containment options, and corrective/preventative measures.
- Meticulously document all troubleshooting and return-to-service actions, including findings from daily reports and testing, by creating and updating actionable engineering tickets.
- Create and maintain standardized installation and repair documentation (SOPs), focusing on making all programming, calibration, and testing procedures reliable and repeatable for service partners and technicians.
- Interpret engineering changes (e.g., deviations, change orders) and create clear, comprehensive procedures for implementing these changes in field environments such as warehouses, repair shops, and customer locations.
Required Skills:
- BS or MS in a STEM-related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, etc.), or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Relevant work experience involving analysis, engineering, or technical system testing, preferably within the automotive or autonomous vehicle industry.
- Strong technical proficiency with Linux command line and experience using software version control systems (e.g., GIT).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker), scripting languages (Python, Bash), and automotive software-based diagnostic systems.
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Google Workspace and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence).
- Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work as a self-starter in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment and take on increased responsibility.
- Must be capable of safely lifting up to 80+ lbs and repeatedly entering/exiting vehicles as large as Class 8 (semi-trucks).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to rent a car for business travel.
