About Anthropic

  • Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

  • We are seeking a Strategic Finance, Corporate Planning member to join our Corporate Finance & Strategy team at Anthropic. In this role, you will serve as a highly trusted financial partner to key G&A organizations — including People, Policy, Workplace, and Legal — acting as an extension of their teams on all financial matters. You will drive clarity across headcount planning, operating expense (OPEX) management, and strategic financial analysis, enabling leaders to make informed, well-supported decisions. This role sits at the intersection of rigorous financial modeling and meaningful cross-functional partnership, and offers a chance to shape how Anthropic plans and invests in its people and operations as the company scales.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to support organizational initiatives from a financial perspective, including headcount planning, compensation and equity analysis, program ROI, and scenario modeling
  • Own and drive operating expense forecasting, variance analysis, and budget planning for assigned G&A functions, ensuring leaders have clear visibility into financial performance and goals
  • Build and maintain financial models that support workforce planning, resource allocation, and strategic decision-making across the organization
  • Provide proactive insights that enable better decision-making — not just answering questions, but anticipating them and surfacing risks and opportunities early
  • Contribute to key corporate finance deliverables, including Board materials, investor relations support, and public company readiness efforts
  • Develop deep expertise in equity compensation mechanics and partner with the Compensation team to model the financial impact of equity programs, refresh grants, and new hire grants
  • Support the annual planning and budgeting process for all people-related expenses, working closely with department leaders to understand hiring needs and timing
  • Establish and implement reporting dashboards to track key OPEX metrics

You may be a good fit if you have

  • 5+ years of experience across strategic finance, FP&A, compensation analytics, or investment banking
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel or Google Sheets, and SQL
  • Strong understanding of equity compensation structures including stock options, RSUs, and refresh programs
  • Comfort working cross-functionally and are adept at communicating complex financial information to non-finance audiences
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt well to change
  • Strong relationship building, business judgment, process management, and communication skills
  • Passion about Anthropic's mission to build safe, transformative AI systems

Strong candidates may also have

  • Expertise with modern financial planning tools (e.g., Anaplan, Pigment)
  • Familiarity with stock-based compensation planning and modeling
  • Strong knowledge of compensation and equity frameworks
  • The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
  • For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

How we're different

  • We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
  • The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
