What You'll Do
- Define, evolve, and communicate YouVersion’s domain enablement strategy as part of the broader Data-as-a-Strategic-Asset vision.
- Translate organizational and product priorities into domain-aligned data capabilities, operating models, and team structures.
- Partner with peer data and technology leaders to ensure integrated execution of data strategy across the organization.
- Represent domain enablement needs in technology and leadership forums by advocating for investments that unlock user and ministry value.
- Build, scale, and lead the domain enablement function by hiring, developing, and coaching Data Domain Managers.
- Design team structures that balance deep domain expertise with cross-functional collaboration among engineers, analysts, and scientists.
- Establish clear career frameworks and growth paths for data professionals serving in domain-focused roles.
- Foster a healthy team culture that emphasizes ownership, collaboration, learning, and ministry alignment.
- Establish clear ways of working for domain teams by aligning data efforts with product development cycles and strategic roadmaps.
- Ensure accountability for data quality, reliability, and ownership within each domain.
- Implement metrics and feedback loops to measure domain enablement effectiveness, including delivery velocity, stakeholder satisfaction, and data-driven outcomes.
- Encourage experimentation and continuous improvement by treating data challenges as opportunities to strengthen capabilities.
- Build trusted relationships with leadership across the various domains.
- Guide domain leads in stakeholder management, helping them navigate organizational dynamics and communicate data work in business terms.
- Facilitate cross-domain learning and collaboration, preventing siloes while maintaining domain focus.
- Champion user-centric framing: every data initiative must connect to mobile app user impact.
- Partner with Engineering peers to shape platform capabilities that enable domain teams (self-service tools, templates, reliable pipelines).
- Collaborate with Governance & Quality to ensure standards are practical and adopted by domain teams.
- Contribute to technology strategy decisions from a domain enablement perspective.
Skills Needed to Succeed
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex technical topics for non-technical executive audiences and effectively secure stakeholder alignment and investment support.
- Strong ability to translate technical and analytical work into clear strategic business insights and measurable outcomes.
- Proven track record of leading organizational change, including evolving team structures, operating models, and data-driven cultures.
- Working knowledge of modern data operating models, including centralized, federated, and data mesh approaches.
- Solid understanding of personalization, experimentation, and recommendation systems and their application to business growth.
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- 10+ years in data leadership roles with progression from technical individual contributor through management.
- 5+ years managing leaders; proven ability to build high-performing teams at scale.
- Deep experience in product-oriented organizations where data directly impacts user experiences.
- Experience in consumer mobile applications with millions of users preferred.
- Background spanning multiple data disciplines (analytics, science, engineering) enabling credibility across functions preferred.
- Experience leading teams through platform modernization or significant technology transitions preferred.
- Experience with governance frameworks and privacy-first data practices preferred.
