Director of Hardware Product Compliance

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and evolve WHOOP’s global product compliance and safety strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term growth plans.
- Establish governance models, standards, and best practices to drive consistent compliance execution across product lines and regions.
- Lead certification and regulatory programs across multiple product lines, from early development through mass production and global launch.
- Ensure compliance milestones are integrated into product roadmaps to support reliable and on-time market entry.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with international regulatory authorities, notified bodies, and certification partners.
- Maintain current, practical expertise on global regulations, standards, certifications, and emerging compliance trends.
- Define, oversee and participate in structured risk assessment and mitigation practices, including DFMEA and related methodologies.
- Ensure product safety and compliance considerations are embedded throughout the full product lifecycle.
- Partner closely with engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, legal, and go-to-market teams to integrate compliance early in design and decision-making.
- Provide clear guidance on regulatory tradeoffs that balance innovation, cost, schedule, and risk.
- Lead compliance reviews and ensure readiness for OK2Ship; deliver concise, actionable updates to senior leadership.
- Translate complex regulatory and technical information into clear, business-relevant insights.
- Improve and scale compliance processes, tools, and documentation to support a growing and increasingly complex product portfolio.
- Drive consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across global compliance operations.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing compliance organization.
- Develop organizational capability in product safety, certification, and regulatory execution to support long-term needs.
- Represent the product compliance function in product development milestones and strategic planning discussions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on regulatory risk, product safety, and global market readiness.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in product compliance, safety engineering, or regulatory affairs, including leadership experience in a growing or global product organization.
- Strong working knowledge of international compliance standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., UL, CE, FCC, IEC).Proven success managing certification programs across multiple products and geographies.
- Experience operating in environments with evolving processes and increasing scale.
- Familiarity with structured risk assessment and product safety methodologies.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present clearly to senior leadership.
- Strategic, pragmatic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated passion for developing people and building durable organizational capabilities.
