Responsabilities
- Facilities & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on:
- HVAC systems for clean rooms and laboratories (temperature, humidity, and particle control)
- Cryostat-supporting infrastructure (cooling water, compressors)
- Electrical distribution and backup systems (including UPS and generator checks)
- Plumbing, purified water systems, and compressed gas lines
- Building structure, security systems, and controlled-access installations
- React quickly to unplanned breakdowns to minimize R&D disruption.
- Laboratory & Quantum Facility Support
- Maintain clean room integrity by monitoring pressure differentials, filtration, and gowning protocols.
- Assist in the safe operation and support of cryogenic systems, following specialist engineers’ guidance.
- Monitor and support environmental conditions vital for quantum hardware stability (e.g., temperature stability, vibration control).
- Safety, Compliance & Standards
- Work in accordance with ISO 45001 occupational health & safety, ISO 14001 environmental management, and ISO 50001 energy efficiency principles.
- Support risk assessments, incident reporting, and the control of hazards specific to high-tech laboratories (e.g., cryogens, high voltage, laser safety).
- Maintain safe work practices in line with NEBOSH and company safety training.
- Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
- Use the CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to log all work orders, inspections, and repairs.
- Maintain accurate service histories for facility and lab support equipment.
- Provide daily/weekly reports to the Maintenance Planner on system performance and urgent issues.
- Emergency Preparedness & Rapid Response
- Respond immediately to alarms or urgent issues (HVAC failure, power loss, water leaks, cryostat cooling interruption).
- Participate in crisis simulations and support emergency interventions following the company’s crisis management plan.
- Continuous Improvement & Start-up Agility
- Identify and propose cost-effective improvements to facility reliability, safety, and energy use.
- Support rapid prototyping or ad-hoc facility modifications needed for evolving R&D projects.
- Embrace multi-skilled work to adapt to the varied demands of a growing start-up.
Profile
- Education: Technical diploma or vocational certificate in mechanical, electrical, building services, or HVAC engineering**.**
- Experience: 3+ years in building/facility maintenance in a high-tech, semiconductor, research, or clean room environment; start-up experience is a plus.
- Knowledge:
- Clean room systems & contamination control
- Cryogenic safety principles -> optional
- Building automation systems (BMS)
- Energy efficiency measures
- ISO management systems awareness
- Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and quick decision-making under pressure
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- Competence in reading technical diagrams and SOPs
- Certifications (desired):
- HVAC/EPA refrigerant handling certification
- Cleanroom operations training
- Basic cryogenic safety training
